Daily Tip #29 - Making Things A Priority

0:01 - Intro

Hello out there! It's Thursday. This is Daily Tip #29. And I'm Shane from MATRIX. I'm going to keep it short and sweet today. What I really want to ask is, how have you been doing with actually doing some of these Daily Tips? Have you identified some of the ones that work best for you and have been trying to incorporate them into your daily routine? If so, congratulations, well done, and I'm proud of you if you've been able to fit them in. If you've been struggling with that part of making use of the Daily Tips. That's what today's tip is going to be all about.

0:36 – More Than The Timer Trick

Along the way, particularly in the creating habits Tip I did a week ago, I've been talking about ways to make these fit into your everyday routine. The main suggestion I've been giving is to set a timer that goes off while you're working, while you're on the TV, while you're on the screen so that you're reminded to spend a little bit of time doing your Tips. If that's been working for you wonderful! However, some of the Tips I've given take a little bit more time, like the warm-up, if you're doing a full routine of the muscle squeezes, or the PMR, or the Autogenics. So, if you're having trouble with starting to incorporate those kinds of Tips or just incorporating the Tips all together, the biggest suggestion I can make for you is to give them a place to live.

1:28 – Use A Calendar

What that means is they need an actual slot in your schedule. All of the things that we do throughout the day -- whether you have a physical calendar, or an electronic calendar, or if you don't even use a calendar -- we have certain times that things get done. For instance, brushing your teeth. For most of us, it always happens right when we wake up or right after we eat, and then right before we go to bed. Your work schedule -- if you go to an office job -- is probably pretty much set in stone. If you've been a successful exerciser, chances are you have a routine. You go before work or you hit your favorite group exercise class at a given time on the calendar. If you have certain TV shows that you love, they always come on television at the same time as well. So, you want to take this structure of scheduling and put it to use for the things that you want to make a priority in your life. That's what you need to do with the Daily Tips.

2:30 – Making Things A Habit

If you're using the timer trick, you're already doing that, in essence. You know that during certain blocks of time you're going to be sitting down working and a timer is going to go off. When that happens, you're scheduled to do some of the work. If you need bigger chunks of time, literally write them down on the calendar. Commit to doing them at a specific time. Set that time aside and you'll be amazed how when it's actually written down, other things won't get scheduled over top of it. And you'll have that time in your day to make them happen. It might not work every single day, different things come up in all of our lives. But if it's living on there routinely, you'll be able to start to make progress and it was all of a sudden become a habit. And then you won't have to think about it anymore.

3:17 - Summary

That's it for today's Tip. Basically, any of the Tips that we've gone through that you really want to incorporate a place in your life, you need to give them a place to live. Have a time in your schedule dedicated to them so that you know it's going to happen.

3:33 - Farewell
