Don't Get Left On The Side Lines

How was the Memorial Day Weekend for you? 

Although it hasn’t felt like it the last few days, summer is here. I want to help you make the most of it because summer should be a joyful time, especially this year.

Many of the outdoor activities we enjoy involve running. Even if you don’t consider yourself a runner, chances are you’ll be doing some running while playing sports, or chasing the kids, or when you’re racing to the front of the ice cream line ;-) 

(And if that still doesn’t sound like you, stick around to the end anyway and I’ll link the info to other activities too.)

Did you know almost all runners deal with pain? The majority of these injuries are from overuse, but many people feel pain right from the start. And while that pain often fades once you’re in the groove, there are still a lot of people who never make it to the groove.

Wouldn’t it be great to be pain-free right from the start?!

It seems pretty obvious when I say running is a full-body activity. But do you really know what that means?

Everyone understands that running involves your muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons even your lungs and breathing.  And it is so much more than that.  Running involves your sensory, vision, and vestibular (balance) systems as well and they, in fact, are actually more critical for pain-free running.  

Because all of these body systems are involved in running, it could be any one of them that’s causing your pain.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be providing you with some simple exercises that you can use as a warm-up to make sure your entire body is ready to go for your runs.

For the non-runners, remember that all activities (biking, swimming, hiking, walking) involve your full body. So these exercises will help you too!

To get you started, check out this video. It’ll teach you some running basics that you may have never learned. Good technique can go a long way to reducing and eliminating pain so you can have more fun!
